Ted Gerow's music career began back in the town of Belleville, Ontario where he was born and raised. At an early age he studied woodwind instruments like sax and clarinet playing in the school band. These musical endeavors would ultimately lead him to an interest in playing piano. He soon began playing well enough to break into his first pro gigs with well known Ottawa bands The Barons and The Esquires.
After moving to the nation's capital, it wasn't long before rising Canadian stars The Staccatos took notice of Ted and brought him in as hired gun to play keyboards and arrange string parts on their early recordings. He became a permanent band member in 1967. In the years that followed, Ted's abilities as an orchestrator and keyboard player helped to mould the "Five Man" sound creating a string of hits on sessions in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto and Montreal. While living in L.A. he also collaborated with some of the leading studio players on many records including Les Emmerson's solo project.
As musical director Ted has toured the United States, Europe, Australia, Canada and The United Kingdom with artists like Bobby Vee and Carroll Baker.
As producer he has also made records for Five Man Electrical Band, Les Emmerson, The Cooper Brothers, Charlie Major, Carroll Baker, Sneezy Waters and Heaven's Radio.
He's done extensive production and arranging for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Canadian Television networks.
Ted is a member of both
the Ottawa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall of Fame.
He
currently lives in Ottawa.
